Exposing the Wilderness: Early-Twentieth-Century Adirondack Postcard Photographs
By Robert Bogdan
Exposing the Wilderness explores New York State's Adirondack Mountains through the lives and images of six early-twentieth-century postcard photographers who left a revealing visual legacy of the region and its culture after the turn of the century.
Robert Bogdan combines a richly descriptive text with striking illustrations to create vivid biographical sketches of these pioneer photographers who worked their individual styles to illuminate the Adirondacks, its inhabitants, and visitors. He includes 250 postcards and photographic illustrations depicting Adirondack life- most never before published. Until now, other than few Adirondack locals and postcard connoisseurs, the gifted folk artists and craftspeople profiled here were virtually unknown.
